When dust-laden air passes through a fabric, the dust is retained while clean air passes through. In an industrial system of gas cleaning, the fabric is made into either an envelope or a tube. These envelopes or tubes are called bags and a housing of these is called a bag filter or a fabric filter. Here, the dust laden gas enters through the hopper/casing by suction or positive pressure. The heavier dust particles fall immediately into the hopper, while the Lighter dust gets deposited on the outside of filter bags. The dust is removed in a pre-determined cycle by a pulse of high pressure compressed air. A short burst of compressed air is released and injected by the jet tube into the filter pad. This causes a brief controlled inflation of the pad to dislodge the accumulated dust cake into the collection facility. This dislodges the dust cake from the bag. The dust falls into the hopper. Bags are suspended from a tubesheet at the top of the collector and are internally supported by cylindrical wire cages to prevent them from collapsing. Recent R & D efforts improved the cage design and manufacturing process, resulting in Longer Life of cages.
